Cops search for militant dens in Gaibandha chars

Law enforcers in a joint operation have been conducting block raids in search of militant hideouts and other criminals in remote char areas of Gaibandha.

The block raids that started last night are taking place at separate chars of Gaibandha Sadar, Sundarganj, Fulchhari and Saghata upazilas, our Gaibandha correspondent reports quoting Mashrukur Rahman Khaleq, superintendent of police in the district.

Members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, detectives and local police, were conducting the block raids that will go on indefinitely, the official said.

Owing to the floods in the region, many robbers are coming to the area via the river-ways and the raids are a part of curbing criminal activities in the area, Mashrukur added.
