Chairman, who ‘walked on human bridge’, sued

A guardian has sued the upazila chairman of Haimchar in Chandpur for walking over a “human bridge” formed by school students during a sports day competition.

Ali Ahmed, guardian of a student, also sued four others in the lawsuit filed last night under child act, our Chandpur correspondent reports quoting police.

Syed Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Haimchar Police Station, said the lawsuit was filed against five named people, alleging cruelty against children.

Haimchar upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwary, Nilkamal Osmania High School’s managing body President Humayun Patwary, members Mansur Ahmad and Abul Bashar, and Principal Mosharraf Hossain have been sued in the case.

A picture of the Haimchar chairman walking over a “human bridge” formed by students of Nilkamal school went viral on social media, drawing outrage and criticism.

It was during the annual sports event on January 30 and the chairman was its chief guest.
