BAF probe body visits aircraft crash site

The members of the investigation committee have visited the site where two trainer aircrafts of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) crashed in Cox’s Bazar.

The high-power committee of the BAF went to the accident site today and collected evidence including scraps of the crashed aircrafts, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director Lt Col Rashidul Hasan told The Daily Star.

Chief of Air Staff of BAF Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar also visited the crash site today, the ISPR director said.

The two Yak 130 aircrafts crashed in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar around 6:30pm yesterday after they lost connection with the control tower.

All the four pilots were rescued alive with minor injuries.

One of the aircrafts crashed in Potivila village while another in Maispara of the upazila, a km away from one another. The aircrafts caught fire soon after the crash. Fire fighters rushed to the spot immediately.

Air force insiders said that the incident might have happened due to a mid-air collision.
