13 killed in Narsingdi road crash

At least 13 people, including a mother and her 18-month-old son, were killed and 29 others injured after a bus collided with a microbus in Belabo upazila of Narsingdi today.
The deceased were identified as Manik Mia, 45, his wife Halima Begum, 26, sister-in-law Jumma Begum, 16, her son Ishan, 8, Manik Mia, 45, his wife Mafia, 35, son Antar, 10, Hira Mia, 35, Amena Begum, 32, Jannat, 35, and Nazmul, 10, reports our local correspondent quoting police.
The bus collided with the microbus in Darikandi area on Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 8:00am, leaving 11 passengers of the microbus dead on the spot, said Badrul Alam, officer-in-charge of Belabo Police Station.
Among the injured, Mazed, 20, Asif, 10, Lipi, 35, Sirajul islam, 55, Kawsar Mia, 30, Sharmin Akhter, 20, and her son 18-month-old son Tasfir Alam Rabbi were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said the OC adding that the others were admitted at different hospitals in Narsingdi and Bhoirab.

Later around 2:30pm, Sharmin Akhter died at DMCH, hospital sources said.
Rabbi was later rushed to a private hospital in Dhaka where he also died around 6:00pm, Md Rubel, a friend of rabbi’s father, told The Daily Star.
A Dhaka-bound bus of Agradut Paribahan from Habiganj collided with the microbus coming from the opposite, said an eyewitness Oliur Rahman, also Narayanpur union parishad member.
Both the vehicle were smashed leaving the passengers dead on the spot, he said.
Police with help of locals conducted the rescue operation and also removed the damaged bus and microbus from the road with their two-hour frantic effort, the OC said.
The vehicles were taken to Bhairab Highway Police Station in Kishoreganj and the bodies were sent to a hospital in Bhairab for autopsy, he added.
“The district administration has given Tk 5000 each to the deceased’s family for burial,” Additional District Magistrate Mozammel Haque told the correspondent.
