A private car burnt in a fire in Rajshahi city last evening.

Architect Rafiqul Islam owned the car, Abdur Rouf, senior station officer of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defence told The Daily Star.

While passing by the city's Beel Shimla area at around 6pm, locals noticed fire in the car's engine bay, he said.

They tried to douse the fire by throwing sand, but the engulfing blaze forced them to call the fire service, he said, adding that Rafiqul Islam was unhurt.
