Farhad Mazhar, wife sued for 'staging drama of abduction’
Detective Branch (DB) of Police today filed a case against writer and poet Farhad Mazhar and his wife Farida Akter for “staging a drama in the name of abduction.”
DB Inspector Mahbubul Haque, also investigation officer of the noted columnist’s abduction case, filed the lawsuit with Adabar Police Station accusing them of staging the abduction drama.
The case documents were submitted to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court of Dhaka this evening and it will be presented before the court on the next working day, court sources said.
Earlier on December 7, after receiving a probe report submitted by the detectives, Metropolitan Magistrate Khurshid Alam directed the officer-in-charge of Adabar Police Station to file a case against the couple.
Two days later on December 9, Farhad Mazhar rejected the law enforcers' claim of staging a drama of abduction and claimed that he was a victim of abduction.
Mazhar was talking to the media for the first time since he was allegedly kidnapped near his house on the morning of July 3.
Mazhar also claimed the statement he submitted before a Dhaka court was scripted by police.
On November 14, DB asked for permission to sue Mazhar and his wife on charges of faking the writer’s abduction and giving false statements to a court and police.
