Hall notice not from authorities: Provost
Authority of a Dhaka University hall has denied issuing any notice “dictating the dress code” for girls after drawing a spate of criticism on the social network.
In a fresh notice issued today, on the official pad of Sufia Kamal Hall and with the signature of the provost, it said that “a particular notice” was propagated “intentionally”.
Previously, a notice hung on the board had curbed girls from roaming about the dormitory wearing T-shirts with salwar, citing the dress code “vulgar”. It sparked widespread criticism.
The notice, typed in miss-spelled Bangla, circulated about Facebook last night.
This morning, the hall’s Provost Sabita Rezwana Rahman told The Daily Star she was unaware of it. “I saw the notice this morning. I issued a new notice. Girls must come to office in proper dress.”
She said the notice issuing instruction for office dress code for students was issued on several occasions. But, she said she did not know who put up “the other notice”.
It is to be noted that neither of the notices Provost Sabita Rezwana spoke of were written on the stamp pad of Sufia Kamal Hall. It only said, “Order issued by hall authority.”
However, the hall authorities have formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter.
