Dhaka North City Corporation cleaners today worked an hour of overtime commemorating the demise of Mayor Annisul Huq.
Cleaners usually lend their hands in cleanliness activities from 5:00am and continue till 11:00am, said Commodore Md Abdur Razzak, chief waste management officer of DNCC.
Today, they voluntarily worked for an additional hour showing respect to the departed soul of Annisul Huq, he told The Daily Star.
“Around 3000 cleaners are working with the DNCC and Annisul Huq has done a lot for them including increasing their wages and other benefits,” Razzak said.
“Apart from this, Annisul has approved a project with the consent of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for ensuring residential facilities of the cleaners,” the DNCC official added.
At the age of 65, Mayor Annisul lost the battle for life in a London hospital on Thursday after nearly three months' treatment there for neurological problems.
Head office and all sub officers across the DNCC remained closed for half day today showing respect to the late mayor. Nagar Bhaban and its five zonal offices were kept closed since 2:00pm, said an official of DSCC.
