Conjoined twins abandoned at DMCH

Conjoined twins with two heads, four hands and two feet were deserted at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) early today.
Around 2:00am, two people came to the hospital with the infants and admitted them to the Pediatric Surgery unit of the hospital, hospital sources said.
Prof Shahnoor Islam, who is supervising the treatment of the infants, said that the babies have breathing problems and might have some complicacy in their hearts.
“They were given IV (intravenous) saline. Some medical examinations will be done to know the exact physical condition of the conjoined twins,” she said.
While asked about the separation process, Prof Shahnoor said, “It will be hard to separate such a conjoined twin as they are sharing same abdomen.”

DMCH Deputy Director Dr Khaja Abdul Gofur said, “A person aged 40/45 came to the Pediatric Surgery unit with the twins and the duty doctor told him to buy a ticket for their admission. But he left the twins at the hospital and fled.”
“As the twins have no guardian at the moment, they have been admitted under the supervision of ward master Zillur Rahman at ward number 205,” he said.
“Doctors from different departments are observing the conditions of the babies and some medical examinations were advised to know their exact condition,” he added.
While being admitted, the conjoined twins weighed 3.5 kilogrammes, he said.
The twins move from time to time, urinate and also cry, said Nasima Akther Beauty, the maid who is taking care of the twins.
PEOPLE THRONG DMCH TO SEE THE TWINS
After hearing about the rare conjoined twins being admitted at the hospital, people from all walks of life gathered at the Pediatric Surgery unit to see them once. Many of them are trying to take photographs.
Additional security forces were deployed there to avoid any unwanted situation, doctors said.
