Bangladeshi ‘tortured to death’ by BSF in Satkhira

A Bangladeshi cowboy was tortured to death allegedly by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Boikari frontier in Satkhira Sadar upazila early today.
The victim is Ahad Ali, 40, son of Ujir Ali of Chhoygharia village in Sadar upazila, reports our Satkhira correspondent.
Ahad’s employer, who is a cattle trader, sent him to Indian territory to bring some cattle Saturday evening, said Rafiqul Islam, chairman of Jhaudanga union parishad in the upazila.
BSF troops of Kaijuri camp of Bashirhat in India caught Ahad and tortured him when he was returning home through the border around 4:30am, the chairman said.
“The BSF men left the victim on the border as his condition deteriorated. Later, locals found him dead,” Ahad’s father said.
Contacted, Major SM Ahsan Habib, operation officer of Satkhira Border Guard Bangladesh battalion-38, told The Daily Star that he heard about the incident but was yet to be confirmed.
“We are looking into the matter,” he added.
