New infected in triple digits 5 days in row

Coronavirus claimed 20 more lives and infected another 991 people in 24 hours across the country till Tuesday morning.

The total number of deaths rose to 7,670 since the first case was reported in the country on March 8.

With the new infections, the country's caseload stood at 517,920, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

So far, 3,286,885 tests, including 14,629 new ones, have been carried out. The overall infection rate now stands at 15.76 percent and the death rate at 1.48.

However, 462,459 patients -- 89.29 percent -- have so far recovered.

Bangladesh recorded 3,041.11 infections, 2,715.45 recoveries and 45.04 deaths per million.

The country's infection number reached the 500,000-mark on December 20. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 7,000 on December 12.

The government has been warning of a second wave of Covid-19 in winter and urging people to follow health safety measures. It has also adopted a "no mask, no service" policy.
