Eminent journalist and former Awami League lawmaker AN Mahfuza Khatun Baby Moudud died at a hospital in the capital this afternoon at the age of 66, hospital sources said.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and leaders of different political parties expressed their deep shocks over the death of the veteran journalist.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also went there and pay her respect to her friend.
Earlier, she was admitted to the United Hospital as she was suffering from cancer, the hospital sources said.
She left behind her two sons and thousands of admires.
According to the biography published by ninth parliament, she was born in Kolkata in 1948.
Baby Moudud obtained her honours and masters degree in Bangla from Dhaka University in 1971.
In 1969, she took part in the mass upsurge and was engaged in several activities with Begum Sufia Kamal in 1971 to garner support in favour of the country's Independence.
