A mugger asked for my autograph - Sajal

Sajal began his career as a model. Now a popular face on the small screen, he has appeared in a film too. In a recent conversation with The Daily Star, the suave artiste spoke about the many firsts in his life.

When did you first feel like you were in love?
Sajal:
When I was a student of Dhaka College. Now that is just a distant memory.

Your first TV play?
Sajal:
 “Tokhon Jante Baki”, directed by Tanmoy Tansen, was a great launching pad.

What was your first modeling assignment?
Sajal:  
I made an appearance for TVC Starship Condensed Milk under the direction of Afzal Hossain. I was lucky to get the opportunity to work with such a feted personality. It was a great achievement for my career.

Your first overseas trip…
Sajal:
My parents left the country for Dubai when I was merely 40 days old.

First career goal…
Sajal:
Sometimes I dreamed of becoming a teacher or rickshaw-puller who could move around freely. But my grandfather wanted me to become a barrister.

Your first income…
Sajal:
It was quite a long time ago. As a student, I earned money by giving tuitions. I did it to make my pocket money.

Your first school…
Sajal:
Rifles School. In Dubai, my first school was Bangladesh Islamia School.

Your first dream girl---
Sajal:
Bollywood heartthrob Madhuri Dixit.

Your first experience of giving an autograph…
Sajal:
It was very interesting. One day an armed mugger swooped down on me and asked for my wallet but a moment after recognising me, he asked for my autograph. Every time I think of this, I can't help but burst out laughing..

What was the first movie you watched in a theatre?
Sajal:
I went to watch a film starring Razzak and Babita with my parents. I can't recall its name.

The first dream of yours that came true?
Sajal:
I dreamed of doing my BBA from Dhaka University. I achieved that.

What is your debut film?
Sajal: “
Runout” will be released on October 16. I've a plan to watch it at a cinema hall.

First turning point in your career…
Sajal:
Several days ago, I emceed a programme titled “Takdhum Takdhum”. It was a major professional achievement.
