5 hurt in Gulshan crude bomb blasts
At least five people were injured as miscreants hurled two crude bombs at Gulshan-2 intersection in Dhaka when a group of people were on way to join a rally organised by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan.
The rally was organised to protest continuing blockade and hartal (shutdown) enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Soon after the blasts around 12:20pm, a joint team of Rapid Action Battalion and police conducted a drive inside Metropolitan Shopping Plaza as the bombs were hurled from the rooftop of a nearby building, half kilometre away from BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s office.
One of the injured whose identity is not known immediately suffered splinter injuries and also a fracture on his leg following the blast. He has been rushed to the nearby hospital.
Another victim was identified as Delwar Hossain, an activist of Bangladesh Awami Muktijoddha Projonmo League unit of Gulshan thana unit.
He was going to join Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan’s rally which was being held near Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office.
Protesting the blasts, pro-Awami League men vandalised several shops near the shopping plaza following which shopkeepers rushed to close their shops.
