Key points of Oikyafront’s manifesto

Jatiya Oikyafront, an alliance of several major opposition parties including BNP and Gono Forum, today revealed their manifesto for the 11th parliamentary election scheduled to be held on December 30. Here are the key points of the manifesto.

  • No age limit for entering in government jobs except for police and armed forces.
  • Balance of power between PM and President will be brought.
  • Deputy Speaker post will be appointed from opposition MPs.
  • Road Transport Act will be amended in light of student’s 9-point demands.
  • Upper chamber of parliament will be introduced.
  • Digital Security Act will be scrapped
  • Private practice of government doctors will be banned.
  • People will get full freedom regarding expression of opinion.
  • Permanent High Court bench will be set up at divisional headquarters.
  • Ombudsman to be appointed.
  • PSC and JSC exam will be dropped.
  • Election-time government will be formed
  • Trial of war criminals will continue.
  • People aged above 65 will get the facility to visit in all travels at half-price.    
  • Freedom of all kinds of mass media will be ensured under an independent press council.
  • Commission will be formed to bring change in education system.
  • Different minority ministry will be formed to ensure their interest.
  • National Security Council to be formed.
  • Laundered money will be brought back.
  • Minimum age for marriage of a female will be re-fixed to 18 years.
  • Extrajudicial killing, enforced disappearance will be stopped.
  • Incidents of extrajudicial killing, enforced disappearance will be investigated.
  • Lower court will be brought under complete jurisdiction of Supreme Court. 
  • Article 70 of the constitution will be amended.
  • Only aggrieved person and government will be able to file defamation case.
  • An ombudsman will be appointed to ensure order in health system.
  • General practitioner system will be made obligatory for all citizens at metropolitan.
  • Nation heroes will be included in the history of liberation war and will be taught in schools and colleges.
  • Measures will be taken to ensure no recurrence of one-party rule.
  • Stern actions will be taken to bring back order in banking sector.
  • Stern actions will be taken fast against those involved in looting in banking sector.
  • Legal actions will be taken against those who were involved in looting money from share market.
  • Food among ultra poor and insolvent will be distributed free of cost.
  • Rationing system will be introduced for workers, farmers and poor people of village and towns.
  • Registration process of political parties with the election commission will be easier.
  • There will be no direct or indirect control of the government on media.
  • Law will be enacted for appointment in all constitutional posts.
  • Attorney General will not waste court’s time by filing appeal if HC gives bail to anyone.
  • Ongoing development projects will not be stopped.
  • Special Tribunal to be formed to investigate corruptions of present government.

BNP candidates of Dhaka-4 and Dhaka-19 constituencies are fearing further attacks on their campaigns and activists.

They both complained of inaction from the authorities despite repeated complaints, they claimed at separate press conferences today.

Dhaka-4 candidate Alhaj Salauddin Ahmed held a press conference in his Shyampur residence, alleging of police threats to his supporters.

Expressing fear for his life and family, he alleged law enforcers are continuing drives to arrest and harass the opposition leaders and activists.

“Several times I have lodged complaints to the Election Commission in this regard but did not get any response,” he said.

Dhaka-19 candidate Dr Dewan Mohammad Salauddin Babu alleged police, with help of ruling Awami League activists, are carrying out mass arrests of BNP activists.

He claimed arrests of at least 19 top BNP activists in the locality and attack and vandalism of BNP’s campaign offices in the area.

Fearing further vandalism, he said he has halted the election campaign for a few days. He too alleged of authorities’ inaction despite repeated complaints.

 

Body: 

BNP today placed promises for the ICT and outsourcing sector of the country in its election manifesto announced today.

Here are some of the significant promises from the party:

  • All kinds of "illogical bars" for bringing foreign currency earned through information technology-enabled services (ITES) will be removed.
  • Low cost Global Payment Gateway facilities will be provided to those involved with freelancing and outsourcing.
  • Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN), Internet Service Provider (ISP) and International Internet Gateway (IIG) markets will be made open.
  • Augmented reality, animation, robotics sectors to be boosted with investment.
  • VOIP systems will be made open for all.
  • Zero tariff on ICT equipments.
  • The metropolitan areas, municipalities and other administrative centres will be gradually turned into smart villages, smart cities and smart municipalities.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today unveiled the election manifesto of the party ahead of the 11th national elections slated to be held on December 30.

Body: 

Awami League in its election manifesto today pledged to form a National Minority Commission to ensure safety of the minority communities.

Laws that discriminate religious and ethnic minorities will be amended and the communities' property rights will be ensured within a fixed timeframe.

Moreover, steps will be taken to implement the sections of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord that have not yet been implemented, the party said in its manifesto.

Today’s episode of ‘The Election Talks 2018’ brings former student politician and journalist Subhash Singha Roy, and political analyst Dr Sakhawat Hossain.

Subhash, a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League and a journalist, spoke about the fairness of the election and expressed his views over the allegations against ruling party.

Dr Sakhawat, on the other hand, spoke about the harassment, arrests and cases against opposition political activists to reflect on the situation on the field now.

Ruling Awami League today alleged that the BNP-Jamaat-Oikyafront clique is not only spreading false allegation and propaganda to make the election controversial, but also distributing illegal money and trying to destroy the congenial election environment.

AL joint secretary general Jahangir Kabir Nanak made the allegations while briefing media at the party President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi office.

Mentioning the arrest of three people in the city on Tuesday for allegedly distributing money among voters to influence the national election, the AL leader said, "Rab men arrested them, including a businessman and a former employee of Hawa Bhaban with Tk 8 crore in cash and cheques of Tk 10 crore, a poster of BNP-nominated candidate with Tarique Rahman’s photograph and a full voter list of a constituency."

"The primary investigation says this huge money was distributed to disrupt and influence the upcoming national election alongside creating a law-and-order situation through violence," he added.

Nanak also alleged that as many as Tk 150 crore was distributed across the country in the last two months.

“Tk 200 crore was brought from Dubai through Hundi and banking channels by (BNP acting chairman) Tarique Rahman.”

The AL leader said the incident hinted a big conspiracy against the country, the upcoming election, and involvement of Pakistani intelligence ISI.

Pointing at Dr Kamal's Tuesday’s conversation in a meeting with the Election Commissioners, Nanak said the nation does not expect such “arrogant attitude” from any democratic party.

"We want to say clearly that every party will have to behave in a democratic and legal way to hold a fair and participatory election.”

He claimed that the BNP-Oikyafront alliance is always trying to blame the Awami league for the violence caused by their intraparty conflicts.
