It's AL’s job to print fake ballots: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s remark over “fake ballot paper” is an advance declaration of indulgence in misdeeds ahead of the December 30 election.

“I want to thank you (PM) as you made an advance declaration of indulgence in misdeeds with fake ballot papers in the December 30 election,” Fakhrul said while addressing a view exchange meeting with professionals at the party chief Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka this evening.

The PM yesterday said she has heard that the BNP men will wear Mujib Coat and badges of AL, BCL and Juba League on the election day to create anarchy and rig votes.

"I also heard they're printing fake ballot papers...we've to save the country from this evil quarter," she said this while addressing an election rally in Narail through videoconferencing from her residence Shuda Sadan yesterday.

Rejecting the allegation, Fakhrul said, “It is your (AL) job to print fake ballot papers as you have the rights to do so and it may have already been printed.”

Claiming that the prime minister has given an advance announcement to rig the election by bringing such allegation against BNP, he said, “We want to cast our votes with genuine ballot papers but you (govt) are depriving us of the rights.”

Blaming the government for using its all state mechanisms to ensure victory in the election, Fakhrul said a total of 14 candidates of “Sheaf of Paddy” have been kept behind bars. Besides, around two to three hundred of our leaders and supporters are being held every day from different parts of the country deliberately.”

The prime minister, during her electoral talks, assured that no one would be arrested or harassed politically after the announcement of the polls schedule but it is now going on across the country without any respite.

Terming the Election Commission as a puppet, Fakhrul said the constitutional body does not hold any power to deal with the issue of stopping the ongoing arrest and harassment of the opposition party men.

“I along with some top leaders the Oikyafront recently held a meeting with the Election Commission for at least two and a half hour, but they seemed helpless,” he said.

Describing the upcoming election is very crucial for BNP, Fakhrul called upon the countrymen to remain united and to cast their vote for the “Sheaf of Paddy” defying all adverse situations that may arise on the election day.
