40 platoons coast guard deployed

Forty platoons of coast guard were deployed in coastal areas of the country today ahead of the December 30 general election.

The members of the coast guard will remain in the field as a striking force till January 1, said a press release signed by Lt Commander Abdullah Al Maruf, assistant director (intelligence) of Bangladesh Coast Guard.

Of them, 18 platoons will be deployed in Bhola Sadar while 12 platoons in Chattogram division and 10 platoons in Khulna division, the release reads.

Meanwhile, paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was dispatched across Bangladesh since December 18 in purview of a spate of attacks upon opposition activists ahead of the national election.

A total of 1,016 platoons of the BGB forces have been deployed across the country to control the law and order situation.
