Tête-à-tête

Thought of the week:
"Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of how much you already have."

Hello everyone,
It's good to be back in the groove after the break. Hope you had a great holiday, and thanks to everyone who sent in your lovely greetings. You really made me smile.

This week we're taking a break from reality, and jumping into the world of fantasy: cartoons, anime, animated movies, and fairytales. Just leave your worries behind and join us as we battle out whether Pokè mon is a positive thing or not, discover our inner cartoon, pick out the most annoying cartoons, and indulge in some Disney daydreams. If only life was as colourful and amazing!

Before Eid, we were talking about the outcome of the US Elections. Last time Bush won (or so the official story goes) because of three votes. Because a lot of questions were raised about that, there were a lot more voters this time, and our 'favourite' Republican made sure he won by a wider margin.

Speaking of voting, it's time for another round of polls. Readers, we're putting the fate of the Rising Stars in your hands. We're going to be having an 'RS Awards' very soon, for which you get to vote for your favourite page, your favourite writers, and your favourite columns. We'll also be having a 'Worst of RS' category. I'll tell you more about the rules and regulations next week.

For now, however, you can write in and tell us what you like about this magazine, and what you would like to see more of in the future. So think about it. Send your polls, opinions, and queries to [email protected] or [email protected]

(10-16 points) You are Garfield: You are very comfortable, easy going, and you definitely know how to have fun but sometimes you take it to an extreme. You always know what you are doing and you are always in control of your life. Others may not see things as you do, but that doesn't mean that you always have to do what is right. Try to remember your happy spirit may hurt you or others.

(18-26 points) You are Snoopy: You are fun, cool and popular. You always know what's in and you never are out of style. You are good at knowing how to satisfy everyone else. You have probably disappeared for a few days more than once but you always come home with the family values that you learned. Being married and having children are important to you, but only after you have had your share of fun times.

(22-28 points) You are Arnold: You have lots of friends and you are also popular, always willing to give advice and help out a person in need. You are very optimistic and you always see the bright side of things. Some good advice: try not to be too much of a dreamer, if not you will have many conflicts with life.

(29-34 points) You are Sponge Bob Square Pants: You are the classic person that everyone loves. You are the best friend that anyone could ever have and never want to loose. You never cause harm to anyone and they will never understand your feelings. Life is a journey; it's funny and calm for the most part. Stay away from traitors and jealous people, and then you will be stress free.

(35-42 points) You are Charlie Brown: you are tender, you fall in love quickly, but you are also very serious about all relationships. You are a family person. You call your mom every Sunday. You have many friends and may occasionally forget a few Birthdays. Don't let your passion confuse you with reality.

(43-50 points) You are Dexter: You are smart and definitely a thinker. Every situation is fronted with a plan. You have a brilliant mind. You demonstrate very strong family principles. Maintain a stable routine but never ignore a bad situation when it comes.

Rising Soap

Thursday morning. The paper comes, and news of AES' encounter with the Yellow Dog Man comes to light. The RS team is galvanised into action. Our question of the Week: Why did Ash attack the Yellow Dog Man?

Jennifer Ashraf: "Miao! No idea…now, if it were a Cat man, it would have been understandable."

Maliha Bassam: "He did what?" *Glares at AES for five seconds…bursts out laughing, and turns a bright shade of pink from laughing.*

Shayera Moula: "Hehehe…I bet it was love at first sight. You know, Ash sees the Dog Man…something about that gorgeous yellow fur proved irresistible…" * Accompanies her theory with facial expressions and wild hand movements. *

Tawsif: "Because I wasn't there at that time…wait; I didn't just say what I thought I did, did I?"

Niloy:…*Camera zooms closer…X-ray vision into his skull…we see an enormous brain…and suddenly…neon flashes of LOL…* Now we know why we can't hear him laughing.

Tashmia: "Oh, poor little doggie!"

Taskin: "Ouff…why so much motion, emotion and explosion over a man in a Dog suit?"

Durdana: "Coming soon…the Dog of Defiance!"

Crucified: "Hehehe…I'm proud of you AES…you're beginning to think like me."

The Girl Next Door: "Well…AES, what do you have to say for yourself?"

AES: "I came, I saw, I hugged the darn guy. Can't someone hug a mascot in public without having his motives questioned? Sheesh!"

There you have it, folks…the mystery is solved. Or is it? Find out next week, when Rising Soap returns.

Cracks and Cornies

Food for thought

Horror gripped the heart of a World War-I soldier, as he saw his lifelong friend fall in battle. The soldier asked his Lieutenant if he could go out to bring his fallen comrade back.

"You can go," said the Lieutenant," but don't think it will be worth it.

Your friend is probably dead and you may throw your life away.

"The Lieutenant's words didn't matter, and the soldier went anyway.

Miraculously, he managed to reach his friend, hoisted him onto his shoulder and brought him back to their company's trench. The officer

checked the wounded soldier, then looked kindly at his friend.

" I told you it wouldn't be worth it," he said. "Your friend is dead and you are mortally wounded."

"It was worth it, Sir," said the soldier.

"What do you mean by worth it?" responded the Lieutenant.

"Your friend is dead."

"Yes Sir," the soldier answered, "but it was worth it because
when I got to him, he was still alive and I had the satisfaction of hearing him say...."Jim...I knew you'd come."
