Tête-à-tête

Thought of the week:
"You can't depend on your judgement if your imagination is out of focus."
~ Mark Twain ~

Another week, more changes. I hope the readers are enjoying our new "Backpack". Taskin's back this week with some more witty words of wisdom, and he is joined by our in-house historian Durdana Ghias, who'll be introducing us to a famous face from the past. There are a lot more new things to come, so you'll have to keep reading the RS to keep track of all the changes.

The biggest thing that's happening at the RS is the fiction contest. Send us an original short story not more than 800 words. Does the word limit sound too tight? Well, that's the challenge. If your work is authentic, and we like it, you could be our next Rising Star. The best entry will be published in the RS, and the author stands a chance to work for us over the summer. Now isn't that an unbeatable offer?

Just send your entries along with your name and contact number to [email protected]. Or you could just mail me.

Well, this week is special because on June 20, we celebrate Father's Day. With that in mind, I'll leave you with a poem this anonymous person sent us:

My dear father
Always better than others
He has small curly hair
Which nowadays is not rare.
My hard working father
Has no time to rest
And is always very obsessive
In doing his best.
My very helpful father
Helps me whenever he can
But when it comes to a difficult question
He runs away again.
Still I love him
And thank him for everything
He has given to me
"Thank you Father
For being my guide
For being my true
Friend of Life."

Shout Out!

Hey People!
Well this week goes to those fun-filled, over-grown children who live with us in the form of our fathers. Why? Because its Father's Day this week (19th June) and I for one definitely feel that they should be acknowledged for the huge amount of entertainment they provide for us, and also for helping us every step of the way, throughout our lives. No matter how big the problem, or how small; no matter what type of problem, it is really our fathers, on whom we can depend, to get us out of every problematic situation. So this week, let us all wish our fathers, and express our love and appreciation for them.

Hey Ni!
Just wanted to wish you Happy Birthday and also wanted to say that you have been a great father and we love you a lot. Hope you have a great birthday!

"Happy Father's Day!" When you were with me I did not feel like wishing you, but now I should tell you how much precious you are in my life. Hope Allah sent you to heaven.

Hey Dad,
You know you are the greatest Dad of the universe simply because you built my life and provided me more than everything, and still you keep favouring me with your helping hand and always encourage me in my fretful moments. If at all possible, meet me on father's day in my dream. Happy Father's Day! Rest in peace.
