Objectives Of Education And Our Education

Education is a process that opens our minds, discovers our inner spiritual qualities; gives us the ability to take a right view of things, teach us the reality of life. Education prepares us to fight the battle of life and to live as men. So education is a blessing, a blazing star in our dark mental horizon. It is a curious possession in which the rich and poor can be equal. It is a key that unlocks a new world to the people in ignorance. Education is of small value if it can't help us in the most important of all tasks- it is to educate the individual for the society in which he must live and to give him the power to change that society.

The importance of education in building morals of a nation is unrivalled. It builds national character, strengthens national ideals and adds to the national intellect. It makes children realise the truth that education aims at making them real men, real citizen and true patriots. Educations of such a nature are of great value in shaping the destiny of a nation. All human beings have the capacity to become citizens but mere capacity is not enough. It needs developing through training.

Education must have two objectives, one- material progress and the other- intellectual and moral progress. Men must learn how to earn their living. At the same time, they must have the chance of developing mind and character to their full capacity. To speak in general terms we get education in two ways - social education that we learn from the family and society and the other is informational education that we get or learn from books, TV, e-media, in school, college or varsity or from other sources. The social education aims at making man and the informational education makes the learners fit for work aimed at national prosperity. Every man has some intrinsic qualities, which need brush and polish. Informational education refines and magnifies these qualities.

Education largely depends on and starts from social education. The social education trains the mind, expands the vision and regulates the course of life. Children will learn what their parent will teach them and tell them to do. Parent's action and speech affect them much and reflects in their future behaviors and manners.
But our social education is becoming weaker and weaker day by day. If you go to Dhanmondi lake or national park or any parks or restaurants, you will see many couples. If they are just setting together or gossiping there's nothing wrong with that. But what they do and how they act are very irritating and a bad example for the young children. I had visited "Boldha garden" few months ago with my friends. At first we couldn't see much people there. So I felt little pity for the fact that our people don't have interest in nature. But after sometimes we suddenly discovered that there were many people there but under the trees, behind the bushes. What a perfect use of nature! You guys would definitely understand what they were doing cause you guys are also witnesses of these kinds of scenes. You will find the same picture in Dhanmondi Lake. What happened to our generations? What is the problem with them? I don't know whether it's the fault of our education system or our character and culture. But we couldn't see these kinds of contaminated things before. So, whom will we blame for these?

Our education system still couldn't teach our parents and people that girls and boys are equal. Girls are not the "bua" of the house or burden to them or governess of the children or a machine. Our men still love to believe that they are much superior than the women and the house hold work is only meant for women. Our education couldn't open their mind. Mere slogan and seminar doesn't mean that we are successfully establishing the equal right. Most of the educated people still don't believe this equality. May be they believe this theoretically but practically they just do the opposite things.

Our education is unable to teach us that our status and economic condition don't reflect in our dresses. Character is the main treasure that reflects the value of a person. But the trade of buying expensive things just to show off is increasing day by day.

Our education system is unable to teach our people honesty and dignity. Cause corruption has extended to every inch of our country. Educated and uneducated both kinds of people are involved in this game. They don't even have guilty feelings for that. Our education failed to teach us patriotism. It couldn't create the unique love for our motherland in us. Most of us don't feel any duty or obligations for our country. We don't prove our love for the motherland by action. We just do it by speech- in mouthful of talks. After 1971, we haven't yet proved our love for the country in our actions. We couldn't place county's interest above self-interest. Our love for our country is only bounded with in agitating slogans and propagandas. There is a saying-" first world thinks about the environment, second world thinks about how to grow more food and the third world thinks about the politics". And it's a trend in our country that in politics education is not necessary and the educated people are not interested in this field. So our education is of small value for the people who are leading us or will lead us in
future.

Now a day, we study in one subject and then do jobs in other field. A doctor or engineer becomes a police officer or magistrate, a scientist, biologist or chemist does jobs in banks. No one thinks about the large amount of money that was invested for him or her to become a doctor, scientist or engineer. What a waste of national wealth and intelligence. We can even blame them only.
What will they do if they don't get job in their specific fields? Most of the highly educated women become only housewives instead of involving in national prosperity. Thus informational education is becoming in appropriate
for them and therefore losing it's importance.

So, we have failed to meet every purposes of education.
So we can't address our education a real education from any point of view. So it's time to think seriously about this.

Buet celebrated mechanical day- 2003

On Thursday, October 23, 2003 BUET celebrated Mechanical Day'2003, a real fun day that was enjoyed by most of the students. The teachers and students alike received a much-needed hiatus from the daily humdrum of routine life, in a day filled with amusement, games, entertainment, Tele films and a concert. The students of them mechanical Engineering (ME) department had designed this day to make it a different experience for all of the students of BUET.

The programme started at about 10am, by the head of the ME department, Mr. Maglub-al-Nur. Then there was a seminar held about the mechanical day and its prospectus. Students and teachers discussing each other on various topics in that seminar. Huge audiences were enjoying the seminar, as it was an open discussion.

After the seminar they organised some game shows. Pillow passing, balloon fights, dart throw, ring throw etc. games were arranged by the BUETICS. It were really very exciting games between the teachers & students. Though it was just complementary games but the students enjoyed a lot. The game shows ended up at 2:30pm. Afterwards there was a break for the lunch. Electro Venture Company & little contribution from the students sponsored the lunch for all of them.

A big surprise was given to the audiences when the lunch had finished. A Tele film title " N-PURUSHER PREM " was performed by the students of ME department. It was about 40 minutes long Tele film. The stage had outbursts of exuberance reflected by the young students of BUET. Like every year BUET portrayed their best talents and performances at their auditorium. The main characters of that short film were ' Shantu '& ' Rumki '. It was a great hilarious Tele film about the real stories of BUET'S daily campus life. The film were enjoyed & highly acclaimed by all of the audiences. The role models of that movie were Juli, Sadi, Bappi & Zia.

Ohwaoo…here's not the end of the day…Final attraction came just after the short film. It was great atmosphere when I entered the BUET auditorium. An exclusive cultural program with a concert was held on that evening. The cultural show began at 6pm. Soothing poems, Rabindra Sangeet, dances, drama, jokes etc were presented by the groups of the students. Firstly, there was a fabulous group dance. It was truly amazing. A popular duet gave much pleasure to the audience. Some students presented a kind of joke conversation representing relationships with their classmates. A Nazrul composition with the tabla brought a classical transition to the whole show. All the performers of that program were from the mechanical department.

Well, when the cultural program had finished then the concert started at about 9.30pm. The well-known singer students of BUET featured it. They sang large number of songs. "ami tomakei bole dibo..","tomar ghore bosot kore koi jona..", "akashe ,batashe col shathi....","pori tumi vasbe...", etc & few more popular songs by Bangla & English bands were presented at the concert. The Mechanical Day-2003 concluded with the rhythmic Titanic song…."My heart will go on".

The students of BUET received a significant day from the ME department & they are undoubtedly grateful for it. It was definitely a day to remember for all of them. The ultimate result of the ME day shows a great success for the whole year round.

AKS senior section open house

The AKS open house of the senior section was held on Friday, 24th October. The event was a huge success. It was hard for the students and for the teachers to come to school at 8 o'clock in the morning and that is on a Friday. Even then the students had to come early for last minute adjustments their chart work and models. The teachers also came early to inspect the final displays.

There were separate rooms for all subjects, for several students ready to explain their projects. Parents, guests and members of the AKS board began to pour in at about 9:30. For the first 1 hour they walked round talking to participants and looking at their work. They were amazed with how much devotion and effort students gave for this occasion.

There were projects on every subject. There were many
interesting science projects of various kinds. Some were biology related like digestion, vision etc. there were chemistry projects like volcano, fireproof balloon etc. there were also physics projects. The audience enjoyed all of these very much.

The English department also did a great job. They put up a candle light reading by which the parents were really impressed. There was also a multimedia show on "Life in AKS". It was done by grade 9 students who had captured in a camera some of the exceptional events of the day to day life in AKS. There was also a pantomime and a magic show. And another very interesting thing was a presentation on `71 Liberation War.

The Bangla department was fabulous. It was filled with colourful charts, sarees, posters, models etc. it was a complete display of the cultural beauty of Bangladesh.
There were many other sections which were equally spectacular. There was an astrology section, business section, sports section etc.

At the end of the event a model rocket was set up. Our principal Mr. George G. Kays was honoured to light it up.
The rocket left premises just at the stroke of twelve signaling that the day had come to an end and it was time for students, parents and guests to return home.

All win' week for Cephalon

The last week was a 'all win' week for Cephalon. It is indeed startling that we won two cricket matches against Sunbeams and Loreeto in the UIU school and college cricket Tournament, and a debate against Ingenious school on the 6th National Parliamentary Debate Competetion.

(Do not stop reading until you reach the conclusion)
On the 26th of October, Cephalon, under the guidance of Shishir sir and Nazrul sir- well known names in the cricket circuit- bundled Sunbeams out for a meager total of 89. Winning the toss, the Cephalon captain had chosen to field first on the Residential Model School playground. We overcame the total in only 18 overs, with the captain scoring highest, 23. But Shoaib was named man-of -the- match for his allround performance.

On the 29th, was the match against Loreeto. The game, being rain affected, was reduced to 20 overs a side. Though the venue was the same, this match was played on a matted wicket, which typically offered more bounce. Loreeto scored a competetive 125 losing 8 wickets in their stipulated 20 overs. We overcame the total losing only two wickets. Shoaib was again adjudged man-of-the-match for his brilliant knock of 64 not out. We are already in the semis, but the last group-stage match will decide whether we are the group champions.

On the very next day, we won the debate. We opposed the bill raised by the government which proposed a ban on the import of all reconditioned vehicles. The debate was awe-impressive. The leader followed by the deputy leader of the opposition, Ahmed Zaker Choudhury, and the opposition member Nazmus Saquib startled everyone present with their brilliant speeches which had a unique mixture of facts, statistics and witty presentation.

Parable Of The Pencil

The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box. "There are 5 things you need to know," he told the pencil, "Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be."

"One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone's hand."

"Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a better pencil."

"Three: I will be able to correct mistakes you might make."

"Four: The most important part of you will always be
what's inside."

"And Five: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write."

The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.

Now remember the pencil is like you. Always remember it and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.

One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God's hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.

Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems, but you'll need it to become a stronger person.

Three: God will be able to forgive mistakes you might make.

Four: The most important part of you will always be what's on the inside.

And Five: On every surface you walk through, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to do your duties.

By understanding and remembering, let us proceed with our life on this earth having a meaningful purpose in our heart.
