FBI official testifies in money laundering case
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has found Tk 20.41 crore allegedly siphoned by BNP Senior Vice President Tarique Rahman and his business associate Giasuddin Al Mamun at a Singapore bank, an FBI official said on November 16. The US agency conducted an investigation into the alleged laundering of money responding to a request by Bangladesh government, FBI special agent Debra Laprevotte said. She was giving statements before the Special Judge's Court-3. Earlier, Judge Mohammad Mozammel Hossain of Special Judge's Court-3 on November 15 granted permission for the FBI official to testify at the trial. The order came in response to an application submitted by Anisul Huq, chief counsel for the Anti-Corruption Commission.-The Daily Star online edition November 16 2011.

SC partially allows Jamuna TV appeal
The Supreme Court has partially allowed an appeal filed against a High Court judgment that justified the government decision to cancel the allocation of frequency to Jamuna Television (JTV) and stop its test transmission. A six-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain delivered the verdict on November 16. Earlier, On November 19, 2009, the government halted the transmission and allocation of frequency to JTV on charge of running its operation without a licence and no objection certificate (NOC). On May 20, 2010, the HC in a verdict upheld the government decision. The JTV authorities then filed an appeal with the SC challenging the HC verdict.-The Daily Star online edition November 16 2011.

Trial of 10-Truck Arms Haul cases on Nov 29
The much-awaited trial in the 10-truck arms haul cases is finally set to get underway on November 29. A Chittagong court November 15 framed formal charges against 11 accused, including Jamaat-e-Islami chief Motiur Rahman Nizami and former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar in connection with the biggest-ever arms bust in the history of the country. Nine of the accused were produced before the court. Metropolitan Sessions Judge SM Mujibur Rahman fixed November 29 to begin trying more than 50 persons through hearing depositions.-The Daily Star November 16 2011.

Lokman murder accused Ashraful remanded
A Narsingdi court on November 15 placed Ashraful Hossain Sarkar, the district town unit Jubo League president, on a 10-day remand in Lokman Hossain murder case. Narsingdi Chief Judicial Magistrate Nitai Chandra Saha granted the remand after Mamunur Rashid Mandol, investigation officer (IO) of the case, placed Ashraful before it with a 10-day remand prayer. Earlier, The High Court on November 14 refused to grant anticipatory bail to three top accused in this much-discussed case. The three include the prime accused Salauddin Ahmed, the younger brother of Posts and Telecommunications Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju. The two others are Murad Ahmed, assistant personal secretary to the telecommunications minister, and Montaz Uddin Bhuiyan, a Narsingdi Awami League leader.-The Daily Star November 16 2011.

SQ Chy charged with 24 crimes
Prosecutors on November 14 submitted formal charges against detained BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury to the International Crimes Tribunal, citing his involvement in 24 incidents of crime against humanity. They told the court that Salauddin had been directly and indirectly involved in crimes, including genocide, rape and abduction, during the Liberation War in 1971. The tribunal would start the trial against Salauddin, if it took the charges into cognizance, they said. Earlier on October 3, the probe body concerned handed over to the prosecutors a report after it had found Salauddin's involvement in at least 32 incidents of crimes against humanity. The prosecutors prepared formal charges after scrutinising the probe report. -The Daily Star November 15 2011.

Rehan admits crimes in Model Adrita Murder
Dhaka University student Ashish Karmaker Rehan on November 13 confessed to a magistrate that he alone had killed his ramp model girlfriend Tahia Tabassum Adrita. Adrita was strangled at a house in Mohammadpur on October 30. Rehan described story of the killing after detective branch (DB) of police produced him at the chamber of Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Erfan Ullah. After recording his statement, the magistrate ordered to send Rehan, an honours final year student of Law department, to jail.-The Daily Star November 14 2011.
