Jason Roy’s evolution

England skipper Eoin Morgan was gushing in his praise for player-of-the-match Jason Roy, whose 121-ball 153 against Bangladesh was his ninth ODI hundred in 79 matches.

“He gets big scores, and it can range from 140 to 180, and the rate he gets it... he’s just so difficult to defend against. He scores all the way around the ground. He takes really good bowlers down.”

“His temperament at different stages of his innings and how he goes about picking off his boundaries and the areas he scores; I think from the start of his international career to right now, there’s a considerable difference.”

The look worn here by Bangladesh off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraj, who was hit for 67 runs for just two wickets, perhaps best encapsulates the Tigers’ utter distraught. Photo: AFP
