More information on GD

Dear Reader
We have received several questions regarding General Dairy (GD), some answers are provided below:

Q: Is there any specific time period for a GD entry?
There is no specific time period for GD entry because depending on the situation and subject matter of GD, duty officer of the concerned thana where the general dairy has been made starts inquiry. As a result, it may be solved within a short period or may take even a year. Usually they investigate the incident, but they emphasize more on the criminal matters rather than any civil like family matters, money loan etc. In law no specific time has been provided for GD.

Q: Is it mandatory that an application for GD has to be handwritten?
The application for a GD entry can be made in any form including a computer composed one. After receiving that application it is the duty of concerned police officer to make that entry into their prescribed register. A carbon copy of the same is duly generated and applicant is entitled to take that home.

Q: Can an application for GD be posted by post card?
General Dairy is the precaution for any incident, when we talked to Gulshan thana they informed us that they may treat phone calls as application for GD and after that they start investigation. Moreover, there is nothing specific about the pattern of an application for GD in law.
