BNP candidate’s motorcade 'attacked' in Cox’s Bazar

The motorcade of Advocate Hasina Ahmed, BNP candidate for Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency, reportedly came under attack while she was electioneering in Chakaria upazila this morning.

At least five leaders and activists of BNP and its other associate bodies were also injured during the attack, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting local BNP leaders.

Mizanur Rahman, president of Chakaria upazila unit of BNP, told our correspondent that a group of AL men attacked the motorcade of BNP leader Hasina Ahmed when she, along with her supporters, started election campaign in Katakhali area of Dulahazra union around 11:00am.

Three cars and two motorcycles were vandalised at the time, said witnesses.

Refuting the allegation, Chakaria municipality unit AL President Jahidul Islam Litu said aggrieved locals might have attacked the motorcade of Hasina Ahmed as she hardly visited her constituency when she was a lawmaker.

He, however, denied the involvement of AL men in the attack.

At a press briefing, Hasina Ahmed alleged that the BNP leaders and activists are being barred from electioneering by the ruling quarters.
