5 DU students accused of ragging at Ruqayyah Hall served show-cause notice
A residential student of Dhaka University's Ruqayyah Hall today submitted a written complaint against five students for ragging her for two and a half hours last night.
The victim student submitted the complaint to DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani, accusing the third-year students Nasrin Jahan Khushi, July Marma, Rinaki Chakma, Jannat Nipa and Puja Das of the hall for mentally torturing her from 10:30 pm to 1:00 am.
The hall authority was also informed about the matter, the victim told The Daily Star today.
"They forced me to dance inappropriately to a song against my will. Finding no way, I had to obey them. I was tortured till 1:00 in the morning," read the complaint.
"During the ragging, they also threatened me in various ways," the victim student mentioned in the complaint.
"I lost my father on October 25 after the demise of my mother. I am still unable to get over this trauma. On top of that, my semester final is going on. In this circumstance, I am feeling insecure due to the inhumane torture," she mentioned in the complaint.
"The Hall authority has changed my seat," she said, adding that the accused were served a show-cause notice.
DU Proctor Golam Rabbani said the hall authority was asked to look into the matter. "Necessary steps would be taken against the accused if proved guilty".
Our DU correspondent could not reach the accused for their comments despite repeated attempts.
