Youth gets life on rape charge
Bogra Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 yesterday sentenced a young man to life term imprisonment for abduction and rape of a 15-year-old schoolgirl in 2011.
Judge of the tribunal Begum Rahseda Sultana handed down the verdict in a crowded courtroom in presence of the accused Abdul Kuddus, 32, son of Abdul Hannu Mia of Vadra village in Sherpur upazila.
The court also fined Kuddus Tk 5,000, in default he is to suffer two months more in prison.
According to the prosecution, Kuddus used to stalk the class X girl of Biruil village of the upazila on her way to and from school.
Victim's father tried to solve the matter through village arbitration, but failed.
Later, aggrieved Kuddus along with his cohorts picked up the girl when she came out of their house, responding to the call of nature on the night of November 14, 2011.
They took the girl to a place and raped her.
The following morning, the victim's father filed a case with Sherpur Police Station accusing Kuddus and three other unidentified people.
After filing of the case, police rescued the victim from Kuddus's house at Vadra village and arrested him.
After investigation, police pressed charges against Kuddus, added the statement.
