China, India send 750 tonnes Rohingya aid

India and China have sent their second consignment of emergency relief materials for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh who fled the persecution in Myanmar.
Representatives of both the countries handed over a total of 753.50 tonnes of relief goods to Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Zillur Rahman Chowdhury this morning.
The emergency relief and support materials include rice, pulse, sugar, salt, cooking oil, tea, biscuits, milk powder, soaps, mosquito nets, tents and blankets.
Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, handed 700 tonnes of aid materials after Indian Navy ship INS Gharial docked at Chittagong sea port this morning.
The relief items were sent by India as a part of its 7,000 tonnes relief assurance for Bangladesh.
"Each 15-kilo family pack gifted by 'the people of India' has been specially configured to meet the essential requirements of a family of five to six members," the Indian High Commission said in a press release today.
A Chinese civil cargo plane carrying 53.50 tonnes of support materials including tents and blankets reached the airport in Chittagong around 9:30am.
Li Guangjun, economic and commercial councilor of China embassy, handed the relief items to the DC. China in two shipments sent a total of 110.53 tonnes of relief items so far.
The relief items will be sent to the toiling Rohingyas in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar by tomorrow, our Chittagong correspondent reports quoting officials.
A flight with relief goods for the Rohingya refugees from the United Kingdom is expected to reach Bangladesh at 4:00pm today, said Habibur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner of the district.
On September 14, India (53 tonnes), Indonesia (7 tonnes) and Morocco (14 tonnes) sent relief goods for Rohingya refugees.
Bangladesh Army started working in coordination with the district administration on the relief efforts and rehabilitation of Rohingya refugees from September 23.
