Obese IS leader loaded on truck after arrest
A morbidly obese Islamic State (IS) leader, often dubbed as “Jabba the Jihadi”, has been captured by Iraqi forces.
The IS leader, whose real name is mufti Abu Abdul Bari, weighs a whopping 250 kilogrammes, had to be loaded onto a flatbed truck after his arrest because he could not fit in a police car, reports the New York Post.
An elite SWAT team nabbed Bari, also known as Shifa al-Nima, in the city of Mosul on Thursday.
The jihadist was known for “provocative speeches against the security forces” and is considered one of the top IS leaders, Iraqi security officials said in a statement.
Bari issued religious decrees -- or fatwas -- ordering the execution of scholars and clerics who refused to pledge allegiance to IS when the terror group occupied the city, New York Post reports quoting the statement.
During the group’s self-styled caliphate in 2014, he also ordered the destruction of a mosque built at the site believed to be the burial place of the biblical prophet Jonah, who once had a famous encounter with a whale.
