About 200 women blockaded the Mohajonpatti-Kastoghar road in Sylhet city's Kastoghar area for three hours yesterday, demanding water supply in the area.
Usha Rani Pal, retired headmistress of Mainunnesa Girls' High School, who also demonstrated, claimed that the inhabitants had been suffering from acute water shortage for the last three months as there had been no water in the city corporation's water line.
The agitators withdrew after the city corporation assured them of taking immediate steps to rectify the problem.
Hossain Jamal, executive engineer at Sylhet City Corporation, said the main problem was the water supplying lines which were old and faulty.
He said new lines were being set up in the area.
