WE's debut album Ekushe Amar Gaan to be launched

Amar Gaan

WE, a Bangladeshi music band, set off full steam in Dhaka in 2007. Though the band first got their act together in Rajshahi with a programme at Rajshahi Medical College, they relocated to Dhaka in 2007. Their USP is that all the members are vocalists. The present line up of the band -- Peearo Khan on drums, Zaman on keyboard and piano, Dr. Shipar and Shanto are on guitars and Shohag on bass. They mostly play soft rock and country music.
The band is now busy with their debut album titled “Ekushe Amar Gaan”. The members explain the title by saying that Bangla is the core of our national identity. The Language Movement has given us this identity along with the courage and strength to face the world. However, we have drifted far away from Bangla and failed to respect the language, they say. We should be proud of having a beautiful language like Bangla and remember that we are actually made by Bangla.
The album is to be launched in the first week of February to pay homage to the language martyrs and all languages around the world. The album features love songs, patriotic songs, nostalgic songs, highlighting six seasons of the country. The band also will cover some English songs in the album. WE's use of acoustic instruments and their music composition give their songs a feel of 80's music. The band has performed in varied locations at home and abroad.
About their favourite bands and contemporary rock music, WE members said that the Bangladeshi rock began in the 1960s when a number of self-taught musicians performed cover songs. Their commitment to their music led to the birth of the Bangla rock scene. Although early Bangladeshi rock is characterised by romantic songs and mellow tunes, the scenario began to change during the 1980s. Now many full fledged rock musicians are making waves in our country. Miles, Feedback, Renaissance and Souls are their favourite bands.
