Voting peaceful: CEC
The second phase of the upazila parishad election in the country was held in a fair and peaceful manner, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, said today.
The CEC made the comments at after the election to the 114 out of 115 upazilas ended amid some stray incidents of violence including clash, suspension of voting, allegation of vote rigging, fake vote casting, suspension of polling officer and attack on voters and police.
“Aside from a few stray incidents, the election was held in fair and in a peaceful mood,” CEC said during a press briefing at the media centre of the EC secretariat around 6:00pm.
The CEC also said that the commission suspend voting at Noakhali Sadar upazila and 34 more polling centres as the situation went out of control there.
“The Election Commission has taken all the steps to ensure a fair and transparent voting,” CEC said during the briefing.
