Upazila poll results reveal AL's weakness
AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury yesterday said the second phase of upazila polls revealed the ruling Awami League's political weakness as contestants it supported won less number of vice-chairmen posts than Jamaat-e-Islami which is suffering from “existential crisis”.
“You got only 30 vice-chairmen while Jamaat got 32 vice-chairmen. Your position is worse than Jamaat. But you have no shame for this demotion,” the Bikolpodhara Bangladesh president told a discussion as chief guest.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) (Rob) organised the discussion in the capital's Jatiya Press Club marking “National Flag Hoisting Day”, commemorating the first time Bangladesh's flag was raised by JSD President ASM Abdur Rob at Dhaka University (DU) in 1971.
Other speakers criticised the DU authority for not inviting Rob to an event Jayaddhani, a campus-based cultural group, organised before the DU arts building celebrating the day.
