UP member held on rape charge

A union parishad member was held on rape charge in Lama upazilla of the district yesterday.
The arrestee is Abdul Malek, 30, a member of Lama Sadar union parishad in the upazila.
Police arrested Malek following a case filed by the rape victim, said Sha Jahan Khan, officer in-charge of Lama Police Station.
The victim alleged that Malek stormed into her house in Rajbari area of the upazilla around 9:00pm on Monday and raped her.
Refuting the allegation, the UP member said he was the victim of conspiracy.
The woman was sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for medical test yesterday, said OC Sha Jahan Khan.
In Sylhet, a minor girl was violated allegedly by a youth at Khadinagar Barojan Tea Garden in Sadar upazila on Tuesday, reports UNB.
