Unidentified miscreants allegedly tried to kidnap the president of Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) in the capital's Bijoy Sarani intersection last evening.
Failing to abduct him, the kidnapers threatened to kill Shahed Chowdhury, also city editor of Bangla daily the Somokal, and “see him” in future, said the journalist leader.
Shahed was on his way to the office of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Gulshan from the DRU office to attend an iftar party there.
He said a private car intercepted his microbus near Bijoy Sarani around 6:30pm.
Then two youths came out of the car and tried to drag him out of the microbus, but failed as passersby came forward to help him, said Shahed.
He received minor injuries in the hands as the kidnappers scuffled with him.
Shahed said he had immediately informed the matter to high officials of police.
Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Police Station, confirmed it.
