Two shot dead in Madaripur
Criminals hacked and later shot two people including a madrasa teacher dead in Tekerhat area under Rajoir upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Maulana Abul Bashar, 55, a teacher of local Rashidia Fazil Madrasa and resident of Bara Ballandi in Shaltha upazila of Faridpur district and Billal Mollah, 22, son of Kawsar Mollah of Madhukhali upazila.
Police and Shahinur Begum, wife of Abul Bashar, said there was a longstanding feud between two Awami League leaders Shahin Khandaker and Delwar Kazi in Shaltha.
At a stage, Jamaat activist Abul Bashar joined AL with the support of Delwar Kazi.
Officer in-charge (OC) of Rajoir Police Station Moniruzzaman said, police detained a man in connection with the double murder. A locally made pistol and a Chinese machete were seized from the spot.
Abu Bakar Munshi, brother to Abul Bashar, filed a murder case with Rajoir Police Station accusing Shahin Khandaker as key suspect and six to seven others in connection with the murder.
Arshed Ali, OC (investigation), said Billal might be one of the perpetrators who took part in the killing.
Billal along with three others, using fake identity, had rented a boarding house four days ago and locked in a fierce altercation over share of money.
Later two of them left the boarding, Arshed Ali added.
