Two robbers killed in gunfight with cops
Two robbers were killed in a gunfight with police in Baniagati area under Kamarkand upazila of Sirajganj district early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Md Al Mahmud, 28, and Mansur Ali, 26, of the area.
Superintendent of Police SM Emran Hossain said a gang of 8/10 committed several robberies on Dhaka-Bogra highway on the western side of Bangabandhu Bridge during the blockade.
Receiving information that a gang of robbers took position on the western side of the bridge to commit robbery, a police team raided the area at around 3:30am,
Sensing the presence of the police team, the robbers opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate. The two robbers killed during the gunfight while others managed to flee, the SP said.
Away in Chuadanga, robbers looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth about Tk 3 lakh from two houses at Bhhogirotpur village in Damurhuda upazila on Monday night, reports our correspondent.
Police and locals said a gang of 12/14 entered the house of one Ashadul of the area by breaking open the door open and took away valuables at gunpoint.
