Two Rab men's remand ends

The eight-day remand of two former Rab officials in the Narayanganj seven-murder case ended yesterday.
Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, ex-commanding officer of Rab-11, and Maj Arif Hossain would be placed before the court today.
Another official, Lt Commander Masud Rana, was still on remand.
The trio were shown arrested in the case filed for abduction and murder of seven people, including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam.
Mamunur Rashid Mondal, investigation officer of the case, refused to disclose details of the interrogation and said the murder probe needs more time.
Meanwhile, Jannatul Ferdous Nila, Narayanganj ward councillor arrested on May 26, was sent to jail yesterday on completion of her three-day remand in the 2013 Jewel murder case.
Nila was detained as the confessional statements of Sohag and Mona, two accused in the case, suggested her links to the murder. She, however, claims innocence.
According to locals, she had an affair with Nur Hossain, the prime suspect of the seven-murder in Narayanganj.
Police said they were trying to investigate the foreign calls made to her phone following the seven-murder and Nur Hossain's escape.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission based on a report published in the Samakal on May 23 has decided to probe Hossain's wealth allegedly amassed through different illicit means.
