Two forest robbers to die for murder
A court here yesterday sentenced two forest robbers to death for killing two brothers in Sharankhola upazila of the district in 2004.
Those awarded death penalty are Julfikar Ali alias Julfu, son of Habib Matabbor of Jaymoni village, and Oli alias Raju, son of Jalal Mollah of Amratala village in Mongla upazila.
District and Sessions Judge SM Solaiman of the court passed the verdict in absence of the duo.
According to the prosecution, the two siblings -- Anwar Hawlader and Harun Hawlader--went to Shela River near Sundarbans for fishing on October 17, 2004 and remained missing.
Six days later, the body of Anwar was recovered from the char area near the river.
Badsha Hawlader, elder brother of the deceased, filed a murder case with Mongla police station accusing some unidentified people.
Sub-Inspector Abul Hossain, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet before the court against Julfikar and Oli on December 12 in 2005.
After examining witnesses and evidence, Judge SM Solaiman found the duo guilty and pronounced the verdict.
