Two DS readers come forward

Two benevolent readers of The Daily Star have come forward to extend their assistance for a Bogra widow struggling to make ends meet with her teenage sons suffering from bipolar disorder.

Hafiz Ahmed Mazumder, chairman of the Board of Directors of Pubali Bank Limited, provided Tk 50,000 while Rajiuddin Koraishi, a retired civil servant residing in Uttara of the capital, Tk 10,000.

Officials of the bank handed over the pay order to Nazma Begum at her Pandarpara village residence in Gohail union of Shajahanpur upazila yesterday afternoon.

Choked with emotion, Nazma repeatedly expressed her gratitude for the humanitarian support.

Meanwhile Rajiuddin has sent a pay order from Dhaka through courier on September 29, addressed to Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Rubayet Khan.

The Daily Star ran Nazma's story on September 28 titled, “Mother helpless to be helpful”.
