Two abducted in Jhenidah freed, two arrested
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rescued two abducted men in Barobazar area under Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah district early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
They also arrested two alleged abductors along with an ambulance, a motorbike and a signal light used by police.
The victims are ambulance driver Rashid Sheikh and his helper Munna Hossain, said squadron leader Neaz Mohammad Foysal, camp commander of Rab-6.
Hearing scream, a team of Rab chased a motorbike, rescued Rashid from the vehicle and later arrested its drivers Babu Biswas and Kamal Hossain at 3:30am.
As per the arrestees' statement, the elite force then rescued Munna in the same area.
The abductees said, a gang of 7/8 in the guise of Rab men waylaid their ambulance near fish market in the area, held them hostage at gunpoint and demanded ransom.
The incident took place when we the two returning to hospital after dropping a patient in Barobazar area, they said.
In Chapainawabganj, over a month into his abduction, police were yet to rescue a local Jubo League leader, reports our correspondent.
The victim is Nasir Hossain, 28, general secretary of Ward no 9 of Kansat union unit of Jubo League.
Family members at a press conference in the town yesterday sought prime minister's intervention for immediate rescue of Nasir, also a mango trader.
On the night of August 26, a gang of 5/6 abducted Nasir at Horipur village in Shibganj upazila for Tk 6 lakh ransom.
Sub-inspector Abdul Karim of Shibganj police station said four alleged kidnappers were arrested so far. They are Shariful, Mosharraf, Torikul and Imam Hossain.
Police were raiding different areas to arrest the rest accused and rescue Nasir, said the SI, also the investigation officer of the case.
