Tribunal summons Bergman over '71 comment
A special tribunal in Dhaka today summoned David Bergman, a special correspondent to English daily New Age, to explain his blog posts that question the number of Liberation War martyrs.
The British journalist will have to appear before International Crimes Tribunal-2 on March 6 with a reply or send the explanation through his lawyers.
The move came two days after a Supreme Court lawyer, Adul Kalam Azad, moved to the court seeking a contempt move against Bergman saying Bergman "termed the tribunal's claim of 30 lakh martyrs as wrong".
According to the petitioner, the New Age journalist made the comments in his two blog posts uploaded on November 11, 2011 and January 28, 2013 following the indictment of Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee and death penalty awarded to Abul Kalam Azad alias Bachchu Razakar in wartime trial.
After hearing, the three-member tribunal led by its Chairman Justice Obaidul Hasan issued the order.
