BGB to be deployed on Paturia-Daulatdia, Shimulia-Banglabazar routes tomorrow morning
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will be deployed on Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia- Banglabazar routes in Manikganj and Munshiganj from tomorrow morning to control the rush of holidaymakers risking Covid-19 infections.
"Necessary numbers of BGB troops will assist the local administration from tomorrow morning to control the journey of home-bound people for Eid celebrations -- to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection," Lt Col Faizur Rahman, director (operation) of BGB, told The Daily Star.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters, Manikganj Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous said three platoons of BGB will be deployed on Paturia-Daulatdia route from Sunday morning to enforce the suspension of ferry services.
Of the three platoons, one team will patrol at Dhalla point of Dhaka-Aricha highway while second team at Barbaria point and the rest in Paturia ghat area, our Manikganj correspondent reports quoting the DC.
Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Moniruzzaman Talukder said two platoons of BGB would be deployed at Shimulia ferry terminal in Munshiganj from tomorrow.
Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Kathalbaria routes have been suspended since early today as per government instructions to curb the spread of coronavirus ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Despite the suspension, three ferries left the Paturia Ferry Terminal for Daulatdia Terminal today amid pressure from a huge numbers of passengers.
