Transport strike in Sylhet divn observed
All modes of transport went off the roads in four districts of Sylhet division yesterday as the divisional chapter of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik federation enforced a daylong strike to press its three-point demand.
The demands are immediate arrest of the killers of an auto-rickshaw driver, reinstatement of 23 transport workers of Lafarge Surma Cement Company, and steps to rescue car driver Sohel who went missing from Sunamganj Sylhet road on April 4.
The decision to enforce the strike was taken at a meeting of the federation held in Sylhet city on June 31. Representatives from Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj and Sylhet districts attended the meeting, said the federation's divisional unit President Selim Ahmed Folik.
Federation's Sylhet division President Selim threatened to enforce an indefinite transport strike in the districts after Eid-ul Fitr if their demands were not met immediately.
