Traffic cop beaten up for stopping microbus with tinted glasses
A traffic sergeant of Sitakunda highway police was beaten yesterday by locals as he challenged two sons of an influential former local chairman on Dhaka-Chittagong highway for not having proper documents of their microbus with tinted glasses.
Monirul Islam was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Monirul asked for the microbus's documents as it had tinted glasses which are banned but Robiul Hasan and Nazmul Hossain, sons of former Bhatiari union parishad chairman Md Eshak, refused to do so.
They got locked in an altercation with the sergeant in Bhatiari Bazar area as he was preparing to file a case, said police.
At one point, the duo called some 25 locals over the phone who beat up Monirul, police added.
However, eyewitnesses said the two did not call up anyone, and it was the locals who attacked Monirul when they saw him speaking rudely to their “popular figures”, Robiul and Nazmul.
Officer-in-Charge of Baraowlia Highway Police Station said they would file a case for obstructing police from discharging their duty.
The two could not be contacted over their phones.
