Torturing journo: complaint lodged against Kurigram ex-DC, 3 others
A complaint was lodged today against former deputy commissioner of Kurigram Sultana Pervin and three others for their alleged involvement in torturing a journalist in the district.
The three others are Senior Assistant Commissioner Nazim Uddin, and assistant commissioners Rintu Bikash Chakma and SM Rahatul Islam.
Bangla Tribune Senior Reporter Nuruzzaman Labu filed the complaint with Kurigram Sadar Police Station on behalf of Ariful Islam, a correspondent of the online news portal.
After receiving the complaint, Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station, said that they would investigate the incident first. They will take necessary measures in this regard after discussing with the high-ups, the OC added.
When contacted, Dr Redwan Ferdaus, resident medical officer of Kurigram General Hospital, told our Lalmonirhat correspondent that Ariful is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
He is out of danger now, the physician said.
On March 14, a mobile court of Kurigram district administration, led by the three assistant commissioners, sentenced Ariful to one-year imprisonment after he was arrested from his home on charges of "possessing narcotics".
Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Sultana Pervin and three of her colleagues were withdrawn on March 16 following their controversial role in the conviction of journalist Ariful.
