Former finance minister Wahidul Huq no more
Dr Wahidul Huq, a noted economist and former finance minister during HM Ershad's regime, passed away yesterday in Toronto, Canada.
He was 87.
Wahidul Huq's family sources confirmed the news of his demise to The Daily Star today.
Dr Wahidul completed his masters from Dhaka University in 1955 and then completed his PhD from Stanford University in California, US.
He taught for some time at the University of Berkeley and later joined University of Toronto and settled there.
He served as the country's finance minister from September 1988 to May 1990.
A highly respected and well-known economist, Dr Wahidul was deeply connected with Bangladesh and used to visit the country almost every year.
