Ex-UP member killed by rivals in Brahmanbaria
A former union parishad member was killed by a rival group in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria last night, according to police.
The deceased was identified as Abu Bakkar Siddique, 55, a former member of Sarail Sadar Union Parishad and son of late Chomok Bepari of the upazila's Bepari Para.
The attack took place at Prato Bazar around 7:30pm on Thursday, reported our Brahmanbaria correspondent, quoting police.
"Shah Alam, an incumbent member of the union parishad, and his two brothers were attacked by rival Siddique's group before Eid-ul-Azha [2019]. A case was filed in this regard," said Shahadat Hossain Titu, officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station.
"Shah Alam's group then launched an attack on Siddique with sharp weapons in Prato Bazar around 7:30pm. He was rushed to Brahmanbaria General Hospital where doctors declared him dead," the OC said.
ABM Musa, the duty doctor of the hospital's emergency department, said the victim was brought to the hospital in a critically injured state, with the tendons and bones of both hands and legs almost completely severed.
He succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding, the doctor added.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident, OC Shahadat added.
