Biman to suspend 2 remaining flights from March 30 to April 7
Biman Bangladesh Airlines today announced that it will suspend flights on its two remaining routes to London and Manchester for a week from March 30, which will mark a temporary end of all its flights, both international and domestic.
Biman's Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Tahera Khandaker told The Daily Star that the suspension will be in effect from March 30 to April 7, but could be extended depending on the state of the global coronavirus outbreak.
The last flights to the two destinations will leave on March 29 and return on March 30.
In the wake of the global coronavirus outbreak, the national airliner has now stopped operation on all 17 international routes, said M Mohibul Haque, senior secretary, civil aviation and tourism ministry.
Last week, the national flag-carrier had suspended its operations to all seven domestic routes for an indefinite period.
Biman incurred a loss of Tk 450 crore in the last one and a half months, Mokabbir Hossain, MD and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, told our correspondent on Thursday.
Biman was forced to stop its operations on all 17 international routes due to the restrictions of the respective countries following the global coronavirus pandemic.
At present, Dhaka still maintains routes with China, Hong Kong and Bangkok, which are serviced by foreign airlines.
