10 hurt in AL-BNP clash in Tangail
Ten people were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League and BNP at Dainya in Tangail's Sadar upazila today.
The injured were admitted to the Tangail General Hospital and different private clinics, our local correspondent reports quoting party men.
Witnesses said that local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) organised a doa mahfil and food distribution programme at the house of Labu Miah, former president of Sadar upazila JCD, at Dainya union on occasion of the 42nd death anniversary of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.
When Mahmudul Hasan, former president of district BNP, attended the programme, a group of local AL men reached the spot chanting slogan -- Joy Bangla.
As local BNP men reached the spot, a clash broke out between the two groups, leaving 10 activists of the both sides injured, they said.
Labu Miah alleged that a group of ruling party men, led by Shahadat Hossain, brother of Dainya union AL President Afzal Hossain, carried out the attack on BNP men.
At least five activists of BNP were injured in the attack, he added.
AL leader Afzal, also chairman of Dainya union parishad, alleged that when leaders and activists of AL and its associate bodies were passing through the area, the BNP men hurled insults directed at them, triggering the clash.
At least five AL men were injured in the attack by BNP men, Afzal also alleged.
Abu Salam Miah, officer-in-charge of Tangail Sadar Police Station, said none of the parties came to lodge any complaint in this regard.
"Necessary steps will be taken after receiving a complaint," he added.
