Tofail for emergency RMG fund
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today suggested the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to generate a fund for any emergency like Tuba Group workers’ payment crisis.
Tofail was speaking at a press conference on the payment to the workers of the Tuba Group at the BGMEA office.
The BGMEA paid the salary of the month of July and overtime allowances to 1,417 workers of the Tuba Group at the BGMEA office from 2:00 in the afternoon.
“It is my suggestion to the BGMEA to form the fund to face any emergency moment,” Ahmed said.
On re-opening of the affected five factories of the Tuba Group, Tofail said if the owner is able to re-start the production, he will do it.
“And if he cannot run the factories, he will lay off the workers after paying four months’ salaries as per the laws of the country,” the commerce minister said.
